Each of them carries forward treasured memories of his love, his interests, and the steady presence he brought to their lives.
Donald Anthony Spreen Sr., of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on September 5, 2026. He was born on December 28, 1934, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Donald was loved and respected by anyone who met him, and his presence left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. He was a man of strong interests and deep enjoyments, someone who embraced life in ways that brought both character and warmth to his days. He was a member of The Marksmen Chalmette and also belonged to the local VFW of St. Tammany. With “Semper Fi” as part of his life’s identity, he held an enduring affiliation with the United States Marine Corps.
He had many passions that reflected both his spirit and his personality. Donald later in life developed a love for square dancing, and he found great enjoyment in that community and pastime. He was also known for enjoying oysters, crabs, and Miller Ponies as favorites he returned to often. He loved the Bayou Bengals and the Saints and was one of the first season ticket holders, a distinction that spoke to his loyal enthusiasm. An avid reader, a military enthusiast, and a gun collector, Donald pursued the things that interested him with genuine dedication.
Above all, family was at the heart of his life. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the love he held for them was a defining part of who he was. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Margaret Spreen; his children, Donald Jr. (Tammy), Rachel (Lorne), and David (Corlita); his sister, Rosalie; his grandchildren, Casey (Brittany), Victoria (Connor), Tristan (Angie), and Cora Belle; and his great-grandchildren, Landon, Hensley, Kohen, Greyden, and Ledger. Each of them carries forward treasured memories of his love, his interests, and the steady presence he brought to their lives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Spreen, and his mother, Mae Barras Spreen.
Donald Anthony Spreen Sr. will be dearly missed, and he will be remembered with affection by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank St. Tammany Hospice for the love and care provided, especially Michelle and Sara Beth.
