Don Joseph Patrick Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the age of 73.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Kathy Jane Patrick, along with his parents Earl Paul Patrick Sr. and Florence Lapuyade Patrick and his five siblings Shirley Patrick Johnson Letellier, Earl Patrick Jr., Sidney Patrick Sr., Ralph Patrick Sr., and Lawrence Patrick Sr.
Don was a devoted father to his three children, Rachael M. Patrick (Sophie), Don J. Patrick Jr. (Heidi), and Kelly J. Patrick, and a proud, loving grandfather to Keelie M. Patrick, Kiara J. Patrick, and Don J. Patrick III. His role as “Dad” and “Grandpa” meant everything to him, and he poured his heart into his family in every way he could.
He was born on March 23, 1953 in New Orleans, LA, where he began a life that would come to be defined by resilience, strength, and an unwavering devotion to the people he loved. Don was known for his gentle nature, kind heart, and steady presence. He didn’t need to be the loudest person in the room to be the most loved—his actions spoke for him. Whether through a warm meal, a helping hand, or simply being there when it mattered most, Don left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Don’s life began with challenges, but everything changed when, at just 18 years old, he met Kathy. From that moment on, his life was filled with love, purpose, and partnership. Their love only grew stronger over the years, and together they built a life centered around family, hard work, and devotion. After Kathy’s passing, Don continued to honor her in the most beautiful ways—working as hard as he could to take over her love for flowers and greenery, tending to them with care and dedication, just as she once did.
A proud resident of Madisonville, Louisiana, Don truly considered it home. He was known for his kind heart and the deep love he had for others. Don had a special way of showing that love through his cooking. Alongside Kathy and their children, he owned and operated Pat’s Seafood in Metairie, Seafood World in Covington, and Northlake Seafood in Mandeville. Almost nothing brought him more joy than seeing people smile after tasting one of his meals.
In his free time, Don cherished the simple things. He loved playing cards with family, watching the birds, cheering on the Saints, and spending time fishing. The water brought him peace—the calm of the river, the stillness of the air, and the quiet moments on his boat were where he felt most at ease. He also had a deep appreciation for nature, especially Yellowstone National Park, one of his and Kathy’s favorite places. In a final act of love and selflessness, Don brought his children and grandchildren there this past June, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.
In his later years, Don devoted himself to being a steady presence and guiding figure in the lives of his grandchildren. He found true happiness in simply being with his family, cherishing every visit, every laugh, and every moment shared.
Don lived a life full of love and resilience. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and unforgettable memories. While he will be deeply missed, his family finds peace knowing he is finally reunited with the love of his life.
Friends and family are invited to attend Don Joseph Patrick Sr.’s memorial service on April 12th at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, located at 75212 Hwy. 437, Covington, LA 70435. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by services from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
