Debbie Louise Smith

Oct 30, 1956 — Jul 8, 2026

Covington, Louisiana

Debbie Louise Smith, beloved mother, devoted daughter, cherished sister, and treasured grandmother, passed away on July 8, 2026, in Covington, Louisiana at the age of 69. The world lost a tender and loving spirit whose warmth, compassion, and wisdom touched every life she encountered.

Debbie was born on October 30, 1956, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Freddy W. Smith and Sonia Weinberger-Smith. She met her beloved late husband in October 1985, marrying him on March 20, 1986 on the first day of spring. Three years into their marriage they began a family starting with Alexis in 1989, Alison in 1990, Alex in 1992 and Alister in 1997. After the children were born, they all moved to Lacombe and lived a beautiful life.

Debbie suffered a sudden lose of her beloved husband in 2002 caused by a previous accident. After his passing Debbie raised her children the best way she knew how and that was with love.

Family was the foundation of Debbie’s life. She leaves behind her dear father, Freddy W. Smith, and loving mother, Sonia Weinberger-Smith, who have been unwavering pillars in each chapter of her story. Debbie’s heart was never fuller than when she was surrounded by her beloved children: daughters Alexis Michelle Smith-Nagin (Chris Nagin) and Alison Alexandra Smith, and sons Alexander Michael Smith and Alister Mitchell Smith. She was endlessly proud of each of them, and her gentle guidance, enduring encouragement, and heartfelt support have been their guiding light through life’s every ebb and flow. She also leaves behind her grand puppies and Kitty Zoey, Bella and Gigi.

Debbie’s devotion extended to her sister-in-law, Sandra Smith-Lazare, with whom she shared not only family bonds but also deep-rooted memories from childhood through adulthood. In recent years, perhaps nothing delighted Debbie so much as the role of grandmother to Lindz A. Nagin, with whom she shared stories, laughter, and quiet moments that will live on through the generations.

Debbie enjoyed spending time with her children at the beach where she could dig her feet in the cold sand beneath her and sip on a virgin pina colada. She had a great passion for gardening, watching Big Brother, Survivor, NCIS, Law & Order SVU, and any other crime or hospital shows.

Friends and family are invited to honor Debbie Louise Smith’s memory at a visitation on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, 75212 Lee Rd, Covington, LA 70435.
