David Brian Sistrunk

September 4, 1956 — February 6, 2024

Mandeville, Louisiana

David Brian “Dave” Sistrunk breathed his last breath and began his heavenly journey home on February 6, 2024 after only 67 years here. He fought a courageous battle against cancer. Dave is preceded in death by his mother, Annie “Ann” Shoalmire Sistrunk, father Yammon Sistrunk, brother Donald Samuel Sistrunk, his grandparents and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins who waited for his joyous return.

Dave is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Dana Falgout Sistrunk with whom he shared 43 amazing years of adventures on the road and at home. Dana came as a package deal with her two sweet children, Scott Wisser (Cheri) and Renee Lewis that Dave helped co-parent to make a family, including when grandson Bryce Lewis (Caroline) joined the party. Dave also leaves behind his younger sister, Gail Ann Sistrunk, a baby he thought was actually made just for him to teach, play with and protect; and her children, nieces Alisha Pena Economides (Robby) Carla Pena, nephews Carlos Yammon Pena (Shayna), Jeremy David Pena Barnett, and Tristen Pena, and a bevy of great nieces and nephew. Dave was also blessed with a truckload of cherished friends from his many endeavors throughout the years who will miss him deeply as well.

Dave’s friends and family knew him as a big burly, maybe scary, guy who was actually a teddy bear. Dave was a creator of all things amazing whether it be classic cars and trucks, a bicycle with chopper forks, and even an innovative RV that looked like a locomotive. His blacksmithing skills aided his creativity and his carpentry was second to none. He even built the family home. Though born in New Orleans, he grew up on the Westbank and then moved to Madisonville in the mid 80s before the “come over” rush. Few knew that Dave was a semester away from a petroleum engineering degree from LSU when he decided he really wanted to work outside and with his hands, and boy did he. He drove his big rig “Kicken’ Chicken” while hauling for oil field services, and contracted for numerous businesses. He also used his trucks to help many, many houses on the Northshore build their foundations. He was a friend to many in different crossroads of life and they were a friend to him. He knew his Savior. When asked what Dave would say when he reached the light and saw the joy, a friend replied, “Yeaahhh Buddy!” That’s likely right. We’ll miss you Dave…until we meet again.

Services will be held March 2nd at 2 o’clock at Mandeville Christian Fellowship, 1211 Hwy 1088 Mandeville, Louisiana 70448.

Given Dave’s love of his four legged friends, he wished in lieu of flowers that donations to your local SPCA be made.
