David Stephen Scherer Sr., aged 64, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Hammond.
David was the devoted husband of Jeanine Genre Scherer for 42 years. At the young age of 22, he founded his construction company and gained recognition for completing numerous houses, structures, and surfaces. David’s dedication to his work was unwavering; he even managed to sneak out of hospice care to check on jobs and visit his work friends.
His social circle was diverse, including businessmen, lawyers, laborers, and motocross enthusiasts. David was cherished as a good friend and brought joy to those around him. He relished spending time with family, friends, and close neighbors by the pool, at his camp on the Tickfaw River, sharing beers in his garage, and frequenting local motocross tracks. However, his grandchildren were the source of joy for their “Paw Paw Dawg” in his later years. David knew how truly blessed his life was, living less than 1 mile from all his children and grandchildren, and he knew he was spoiled by his wife.
David is survived by his Wife, Jeanine Genre Scherer, Daughters and Sons-in-law: Morgan Scherer Seale and Grady Seale, Carolyn “C.C.” Stoma and Richard Stoma; Son and Daughter-in-law, David “Stephen” Scherer Jr. and Liz Lynn Scherer. Grandchildren, Halle Seale, Kennedy Seale, Jack Stoma, Millie Stoma, McLane “Mackie” Scherer, and David “Davy” Stephen Scherer III. His Sister, Jan Scherer Songy Brother and Sister-in-law, Jimmy and Mickey Scherer. Sister-in-law, Linn Scherer (George III) as well as numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins
David was preceded in death by his parents, George Robert Scherer II and Carolyn Dendinger Scherer, as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Sammy Gennardo, and his brother, George Scherer III.
Family, friends and colleagues are invited to attend a celebration of life on Tuesday April 9th, 2024, 11am to 2pm at the Seale Residence, 396 Pine Crest Drive, Hammond, LA 70401. Attire is "Dave Scherer Casual".
May David’s memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
