Darlene Virgil Smith, born on August 14, 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in Covington, Louisiana. Throughout her seventy-six years, Darlene's enduring strength of character and her unwavering dedication to those she loved stood as a testament to the remarkable woman she was.
Darlene’s journey began in the vibrant city of New Orleans, where her roots were planted deeply within her family and community. Her upbringing in Louisiana shaped the values and warmth she would bring into all her relationships over the years. Darlene dedicated herself to her family, and her presence served as an anchor for all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children: Bobby Williams, Scott Williams (Crystal Guidry) and Donna Giordano (Frank Caronna). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren—seven in number—eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Darlene’s siblings—her brothers Gene Labit (Joyce), Dennis Mischler, Wayne Labit (Mary), and her sister Dianne Pervel (Anthony)—also grieve her passing while carrying forward her memory.
Darlene’s family now joins together in remembrance of a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Her devotion to family was matched only by her compassion, her wisdom, and her generosity of spirit. She guided generations of her family with resilience, offering support and comfort in both challenging and celebratory times.
In death she reunites with her beloved husband Edward Smith Sr.; her mother Virgil Mary Labit and father Joseph Mischler Sr.; her brothers Joseph Mischler Jr., Albert Mischler (Dedra), and Wade Labit Jr; sisters Mary Ann Katz (Harold), and Debbie Horton. Their memories remain a consolation and a reminder of the strong familial bonds Darlene treasured throughout her life.
Friends and extended family are invited to honor and remember Darlene Virgil Smith at the visitation on July 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m., both to be held at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, 75212 Lee Rd, Covington, LA 70435.
Darlene leaves behind a legacy built on love, unity, and selfless devotion. Her profound impact will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to share in her life and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
