Connie Polkey Phillips

March 13, 1966 — July 6, 2023

Franklinton, Louisiana

Connie Sue Polkey Phillips, 57, of Franklinton, Louisiana, passed away on July 6, 2023 after complications related to stage IV lung cancer.

Sue was born on March 13, 1966 as the eighth child, and only daughter, of Eloise Forehand and Lee Leonce Polkey Jr. in Plaquemine, Louisiana. She was a graduate from Franklinton High School.

She spent many years milking dairy cows before making her way to The Era Leader newspaper, where she had her own column for a number of years. Following that, Sue spent a good stint as a stay at home mom and doing odd and end jobs before selling produce during the summer and fall months at her local farmers market, which she did until she passed.

Sue is survived by her husband, Kevin Phillips, who she was married to for just over 13 years; three daughters, Jordan McNeese, Johnna McNeese Ortego (Christopher), and Jossie McNeese Fisher (Michael); a son, Matthew Phillips; a stepson, Michael Phillips; and two stepdaughters; Haley Phillips and Kayla Phillips. She is also survived by her brothers Grady, Wayne, Timmy, Tommy, Lee III, Joe, Shaion and John. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Michael, Jr., Annabella, Carson, Konner, Aiden, Damian, Mia, Dorothy, Arthur, Evelynn, Danny and Jaxie, as well as; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Sue spent her entire life with her very large family, raising her own children alongside her brothers'. In her spare time, she loved gardening, fishing, doing puzzles, and spending as much time with her family as possible. She loved the great outdoors and loved being near water, whether it was a pond or beach. She also spent a good amount of time doing volunteer work for her neighbor and friend, Gloria Lewis, at her therapeutic horsemanship center. Sue also spent time raising and playing with her beloved dogs and other various pets her children talked her into over the years.

Sue is proceeded in death by her best friend (and sister-in-law), Cindy Polkey, her parents, three brothers (Danny, Billy Tico, and Michael), as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

There will be no services held, as per Sue's wishes. There will, however, be a gathering held at her brother, Grady Polkey's home on July 22, 2023. All who wish to attend are more than welcome. The family asks that you bring a covered dish and bring fond memories.
