Christena Ruth Vore Marsland

September 25, 1931 — February 14, 2026

Covington

Christena Vore Marsland, beloved daughter of Ralph Earl Vore and Flossie Irene Vore, was born on September 25, 1931, on her family’s farm south of Dacoma, Oklahoma. Surrounded by the love of her family, she passed peacefully at home on February 14, 2026, at the age of 94.

Christena’s life was marked by dedication, strength, and quiet grace. She graduated from Dacoma High School with the Class of 1948 and continued her education at Northwestern State College. She married Max Marsland in Oklahoma City, where they began their life together before relocating to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1965. There, she built a respected career, first as an Executive Secretary and later as a Real Estate Title and Escrow Closer.

In 1981, Christena made her home in New Orleans, where she worked for Pellette and Associates, contracting with the Waterford III Nuclear Power Plant in Killona, Louisiana, and later with Alabama River Newsprint in Monroe County, Alabama. She retired in 1995 after many years of faithful and diligent service.

Christena had a deep belief in hard work and integrity. She took great pride in mentoring younger coworkers, friends, and family members, encouraging them to pursue their goals with discipline and determination. Her steady example left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her cherished granddaughter, Tiffany Cothren; her brothers Charles and David (and his wife Judy); her sisters Peggy Percival (and husband Neal Lavern) and Earlene Nusser (and husband Alvin).

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory: her daughter, Anita Gale Canafax and son-in-law Carl Canafax of Covington, Louisiana; her grandchildren Zachary Cothren and his wife Vickie, and Rochelle Bourg and her husband Randy; her brother Jimmie Dean Vore and his wife Moira of Washington, DC; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Christena was especially proud of her three great-granddaughters—Isabella Cothren, Bria Bourg, and Brinley Bourg—finding immense joy in attending their many activities and milestones. Nothing delighted her more than being present for her family.

An avid dog lover, Christena always had a special place in her heart for her pets, caring for and spoiling them as members of the family.

Affectionately known as “Grandma,” she will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for her strength, devotion, warmth, and unwavering support.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at St. Timothy on the Northshore, 335 Asbury Drive, Mandeville, LA 70471. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m.

Her life was a blessing. Her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words, and will be missed beyond measure..
