With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carey Michael Turner, a beloved husband, devoted father and Bud Bud, loyal friend, and longtime coach, who entered eternal rest on July 9, 2025, at the age of 68.
Born in New Orleans and raised in Chalmette, son of the late Terrell and Jacqueline Turner, Carey lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. A proud father, Carey spent countless hours coaching his children’s baseball, softball, and basketball teams, never missing a game or a chance to encourage—not just his own kids, but every child on the team. His patience, integrity, and quiet guidance left a lasting mark on many young lives. Later in life, he could be found on the sidelines proudly watching his grandchildren on the soccer pitch, volleyball court, and swimming pool. He also was the best seafood boiler in the family.
Carey is survived by his wife of 44 years, Laurie; his children, Elizabeth (Michael) and Casey (Blakeley); grandchildren, Anna, Caitlin, Adam, Luke, Ben, and Caroline; his siblings, Cathy, Molly (Tommy), and Jimmy (Sharon); nieces, nephews and cousins; and many close, lifelong friends.
He was a man of faith—not loud, but deeply rooted. His Catholic beliefs guided how he lived: humbly, generously, and with love.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 21 at 11:00 AM at St. Anselm Catholic Church (306 St. Mary Street, Madisonville, LA). Visitation will take place prior to Mass beginning at 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude’s, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or the Cajun Navy Relief in Carey’s memory.
He leaves behind a legacy of family, friendship, and a life well-lived.
