Bertha Savoie Ryan, a beloved matriarch and vibrant spirit, was born on August 22, 1935, in Lockport, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana, leaving behind a legacy of love and joy that will be cherished by her family and friends.
Throughout her life, Bertha exemplified the values of family, faith, and happiness. She remained devoted to those she loved, nurturing a close-knit family that includes her beloved partner, Anthony Joseph (AJ) Mascari, who held a special place in her heart for many years. Bertha is survived by her children: Dennis Michael Ryan (Tara Ryan), Johna Ryan Costa (Anthony Costa), Robin Ryan Naquin (Troy Naquin), Brandy Quintero (Ricardo Quintero), and Jan Mella Monnerjahn. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren; Monica, Megan, Courtney, Troy, Caitlyn, Dennis, Jonathan, Garrett, Sofia, and Noah, along with 18 cherished great-grandchildren.
Bertha's passions reflected her zest for life. She found immense joy in being with her family, singing, dancing, and praying. With a personality that radiated joyfulness, she had an innate ability to bring happiness to those around her. Her positive spirit and unwavering faith will be fondly remembered by everyone who met her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Authur Ryan, as well as her parents, Noah Leo Savoie Sr. and Emily Savoie Dufrene. Bertha was also predeceased by her siblings: Noah (Butsy) Savoie, Emily (Sis) Howard, and Marion Hermetz.
As we celebrate Bertha's remarkable life, we remember her unwavering love for her family, her lively spirit, and her capacity for joy. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
A small private family graveside service will take place at the Holy Savior Cemetery in Lockport, LA on November 22, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
