It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard Lee Porter Sr., who departed this life on June 19, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana. Born on August 5, 1933, in Eldorado, Illinois, Bernard lived a life full of love, family, and cherished memories.
Bernard was a devoted husband to Tillie Wahden Porter. Together, they built a warm and welcoming family that blossomed with the love of their children: Peggy Castle and her husband Fred, Bernard L. Porter, Jr. and his wife Dianne, and Michael Porter and his loving sister Sue McDaniel. Bernard took great joy in being a father and nurturing strong bonds with his children, guiding them through the intricacies of life with wisdom and compassion.
He was also a proud grandfather to Nicholas Walker, Josh Graffagnini, Lee Porter, and Christine Porter, and a loving great-grandfather to Grayson and Leighton. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren always brought such joy to Bernard's life, and his face lit up every time they were near. Bernard's legacy will live on through his family, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee Otis Porter and Marie Stief, and his beloved sisters: Letha Bernice Porter Flander, Retha Beatrice Porter Organ, Ora Porter Smith, Mary Ann Porter, and Bessie Porter.
A graveside service to honor Bernard's life will take place on June 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Arnold Cemetery, located on Airport Rd in Hammond, LA. Family and friends are invited to gather as they reflect on a life well-lived.
