Benson "Ben" Harrison O'Brien, Jr., 73, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Touro Hospital from cancer. He was born on February 1, 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Mr. Benson Harrison "Pat" O'Brien, Sr., and the late Mrs. Cara Elizabeth Nolan O'Brien. Ben was a lifetime resident of rural Covington and St. Tammany Parish.
Ben is survived by his son, Benson Harrison O'Brien, III, and grandson, Liam Patrick O'Brien. He is also survived by his loving sister. Mrs. Cara Patricia O'Brien Jenkins, her husband, Mr. Kenzie G. Jenkins; their daughter and his favorite niece, Ms. Cara Marie Jenkins Sandifer and her daughter, Journey Rayne Grace Jenkins, and his great-niece, Mrs. Skyler Sandifer Waguespack and her husband, Mr. Joshua Paul Waguespack. Ben will also be missed by extended family and many friends. Ben was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Patrick Nolan O'Brien, his niece, Miss Kathyren Blanche Jenkins, and his infant granddaughter, Miss Angelle Madeline O'Brien.
Ben attended Gulf Coast Military Academy in Gulfport, Mississippi, and graduated with Honors from Marion Military College in Marion, Alabama. He was the proud recipient of the Swamp Fox Award, earned by the cadet who exemplified honor, dignity, courage, and loyalty. Ben was accepted and planned to attend the United States Military Academy/West Point Military Institute, Annapolis, MD. Unfortunately, a murder and robbery attempt on his father's life forced Ben to give up his dreams and go to work at his father's French Quarter bar, Pat O'Brien's.
