Barbara Jeane Vincent (Cady Lynch) Sorant

Barbara Jeane Vincent (Cady Lynch) Sorant passed peacefully April 3, 2022 at 8:40pm, in her home in Slidell, La from an 8-month battle with liver cancer. She was surrounded by family, holding her hands, sending her off to what she called, “her next great adventure!” 

Barbara was born in Lake Charles, La on September 3, 1945, and lived in Vincent Settlement with her Mother Desmona Marie (Teta) Elliot, her father Eugene Roy Vincent, and her twin brothers Robert and Richard Vincent. 

She was born a country girl, but always sought out a more refined life, starting in high school by participating in plays like, “My Fair Lady,” singing, dancing, and acting. Barbara was a proficient classical pianist and singer. She loved music and performance, and briefly entertained becoming an opera singer. She graduated McNeese College, was a social worker, a medical editor, and eventually got a Masters in Voice Pedagogy and Vocal Performance. She sang on television for the Hermann-Grima House PBS Christmas program that airs every year, sang in the New Orleans Symphony Choir, multiple church choirs, and various performances throughout her life. 

Barbara loved to cook for family, friends, and sometimes complete strangers! One of her favorite activities was Supper Club. Sharing food was an added bonus to this social butterfly! She also loved to travel which she did extensively over her lifetime, often involving her family, friends, and, again, sometimes strangers she’d recently met. She was vivacious, intelligent, well-spoken, and talented. Once you met her, she was unforgettable; with her fiery, red, curly hair, distinctive voice, and the fact that she could get folks to do almost anything! 

Barbara was married to Peter Edward Sorant, who is also deceased (12-15-2023), and she is survived by her children, daughter Kristen Cady, son James Lynch, granddaughter Keighlyn Cady, and grandsons Jacob Segura, and Presley Joseph Lynch.

She is greatly missed, and will always be loved by those of us in which her memory resides. 

A celebration of life gathering will be held in Genesis Hall at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Slidell, Louisiana, from 10:00 am to noon on Saturday April 27, 2024.
