Memorial Service
First United Methodist Church of Covington
Starts at 11:00 am (Central time)
Avery Hope Hughes was born on March 19, 2026, having already made her entrance into heaven. Avery is loved and cherished by her parents, Tyler and Mackenzie Hughes of Covington, LA.
Along with her parents, Avery is survived by her grandparents, Rebecca Jeffries Abadie (Chip), Matthew Hughes (Kathy), and Steven Hughes (Elizabeth), step grandparents Shawn Conner and Starr Duhe, Great Grandparents Shirley Jeffries, Helen Hughes, Patricia Hughes, and Ronald and Beverly Zapalowski, uncles Levi Hughes and Caleb Jeffries Hyman, aunts Isabella and Gabriella Hughes, and step aunts and uncles Allie Jenkins, Lily and Cade Murchison, Bryden and Brennan Couste. Avery is preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Heather Zapalowski, paternal great grandfather Joseph Hughes, and maternal great grandfathers Bernard Jeffries and Gerald Hughes. Avery is also loved by an extended family of great aunts and uncles, cousins, and treasured friends.
Avery weighed 13.35 ounces and measured 9 inches long. Her birth at 21 weeks came after Avery battled with the complications of Turner Syndrome. Turner Syndrome occurs in about 1 in every 2000 live female births. Due to the serious complications that come from Turner Syndrome, most babies with this diagnosis do not survive the first trimester of pregnancy. Avery’s parents worked to give her every chance to survive, including the best care both medically and through her mom’s physical efforts. Avery did survive longer than expected and every heartbeat, every movement, and every glimpse of Avery Hope through ultrasound was treasured by her parents and family.
A memorial service will be held for Avery at First United Methodist Church of Covington on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11:00am. Avery’s parents would like to express their deepest thanks to friends, family, medical staff, and church family for the support and love shown to them and to baby Avery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Turner Syndrome Foundation (www.turnersyndromefoundation.org )
