Anthony "Tony" Joseph Ruiz

July 1, 1940 — June 19, 2025

Waveland, Mississippi

Anthony Joseph Ruiz born on July 1, 1940, in New Orleans, Louisiana passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at the age of 84. He was surrounded by his children.

He was the only child of the late Virginia "Jenny" Scardino Ruiz and Anthony "Shimmy" Ruiz.  Anthony, better known as "Tony the insurance man", worked many years as an agent and supervisor for Atlas, State National, Security, and Lamana-Panno-Fallo just to name a few. He was a graduate of St. Bernard High, Class of 1958. He was a resident of St. Bernard Parish most of his life. For the last 20 years, he resided in Picayune, Mississippi.

Tony loved a good card game, building bird houses, watching Bay Watch, doing word search puzzles, and spending time with the grandchildren. He always gave a smile and a thumbs up and loved to make people laugh. His warmth, generosity, and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Anthony "Tony" was the father of three children, Kurt Ruiz (Carmen), Shannon Ruiz Matrana (Camile), Danica Ruiz Favre (Jamie). Dad to Glory Gaibriel (Jay), Paw Paw to Olivia Ruiz, Dexter and Morgan Matrana, Britt Ordes (Alisha), Michael Taylor (Sara), and Beau Favre. Pawpy to Wyatt, Easton, and Lorelei Kiddy. Paw Paw Tony to his great-grandchildren, Piper, Penelope, Bradie, and Elle. Tony had a special bond with his grandpa Benjamin "Ben" Ruiz, and he did the same with his grandson, Wyatt. Only the two of them understood the connection.

We would like to thank granddaughter Alisha Ordes for her nursing skills and loving care she provided, also the Hospice Team of Waveland, Mississippi.

Tony's final wishes were to be laid to rest with his mother at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens in Chalmette, Louisiana. This will take place at a later date.

He will be remembered and missed dearly by all who knew him.
