Anita O. Gervais, a beloved and devout Catholic who cherished her family and friends above all else, passed away on May 23, 2026, in River Ridge, Louisiana. Born on July 22, 1932, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Anita lived a life deeply rooted in faith, love, and community.
Throughout her life, Anita found great joy in traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She loved cooking and having family gatherings. She was proud of her Italian heritage and participated in cooking and baking for the St. Joseph Altars for many years. Her warm spirit and zest for life enriched everyone around her and left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her.
Anita was a proud past member of Ludovicum, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, the French Quarter Lunch Bunch, and a dedicated member of the St. Louis King of France Choir. These roles reflected her commitment to her faith and community, embodying the grace and strength she carried throughout her years.
Her family was the cornerstone of her heart. She leaves behind her devoted children Frank Slipher (Jill), Joseph "Joe" Slipher (Jeaninne), Denise Rau (Brian), and John Gervais (Ashley); ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life; as well as an extended circle of family including niece, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Anita joins her beloved spouse Horace J. "Jerry" Gervais, Jr., her parents James and Lucy Oestricher, and dear sister Geri Cost along with brother-in-law Gene Cost, who preceded her in death.
Special gratitude is extended to Barbara Deris and all the staff members at St. Francis Villa Assisted Living, whose compassionate care treated Anita like family day and night. The dedicated home health care team at Monogram Health, along with caregivers Laura Gravois and Faith Williams, provided exceptional support during her final months. The family’s appreciation for their unwavering kindness and professionalism is profound and everlasting.
Visitation to honor Anita’s beautiful life will be held at St. Joseph Abbey in St. Benedict, Louisiana, on June 1, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, immediately followed by Mass at 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery. These gatherings will offer a time for family and friends to come together in remembrance and gratitude.
Anita’s legacy is one of faith, love, and joyful community—a life well-lived and deeply cherished. Though she has departed this world, the memories she forged and the love she so freely gave will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
