Alton Joseph Dupuy

August 25, 1935 — February 25, 2026

Mandeville

Alton Joseph Dupuy, 90, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026. He was born August 25, 1935 in Marksville, Louisiana, to Percy Pierre Dupuy Sr. and Beulah Bonnette Dupuy.

As a young boy, Alton survived polio because his mother miraculously knew how to treat the malady. Raised on the family farm in Marksville, he picked cotton and cared for the crops and animals. His first language was Cajun French and he loved old country music, especially Jimmy Rogers and Hank Williams, Sr. Alton sang beautifully, played the guitar and yodeled like no one else could at family gatherings.

He was the first college graduate in his family, receiving his BS in Agriculture from LSU. As a passionate LSU Tigers fan, he cheered for his alma mater in both victory and defeat. He was also an avid boxing fan, getting together with his friends to watch the matches on TV. His favorite boxers included Rocky Marciano, Joe Louis, Sugar ray Robinson, and Joe Frazier, and he even met George Foreman at a seminar in Texas!

An employee of the U.S. Geological Survey, Alton worked in both Austin, TX and Baton Rouge before retiring. He ultimately moved to Mandeville in 2016 to be closer to his daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After his retirement, he enjoyed researching his family history, reading non-fiction and working the daily crossword. He loved to play the card game "Casino" with his family and enjoyed watching classic movies and Westerns.

But above all, Alton especially cherished his role as Pawpaw. His grandchildren and great- grandchildren were the light of his life and he loved them all deeply.

Alton is proceeded in death by his wives Florena Meacham Dupuy and LaJeanne Posey Dupuy; parents Percy Pierre Dupuy, Sr. and Beulah Bonnette Dupuy: sisters Mabel Dupuy Decuir, Jennie Rita Dupuy Daigrepont; brother Percy P. Dupuy, Jr.: stepsons Larry H. Walker and Louis J. Wardlaw III and stepdaughter Deborah Wardlaw and step-grandson Thomas Wayne Walker.

Walker of Manor, Texas; his grandchildren Monique Chapa (Abraham), Christopher Brady (Brittany) and Serena Walker, Scott Walker, Jason Walker, Wendy Walker,Reagan Wardlaw, Deborah Pattillo, Louis Wardlaw, IV (Zhanna) and great-grandchildren Jaxon Selman, Samantha Selman, Kayln Chapa, Natalie Chapa, Mateo Chapa, Blake Brady, Merritt Pattillo, Catena Patillo, Hannibal Pattillo, and Alan Wardlaw.
