Alan Raymond Flattmann went to his heavenly home on July 9, 2025. He was born in New Orleans on August 6, 1946 to Louis Eusebe Flattmann and Julia Kastner Flattmann. He had two brothers, Louis John Flattmann and Gerald Joseph Flattmann, who predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Price Flattmann, his sister, Leah Flattmann Molaison (Arthur), nieces, nephews, cousins and his favorite buddy, "Sonny Boy." Alan was a graduate of John McDonogh Sr. High School and then studied at the John McCrady Art School on a New Orleans Art Association scholarship and won an internationally competitive grant from the Elizabeth T. Greenshields Memorial Foundation of Canada. He went on to teaching at John McCrady Art School for several years. Alan won many major awards in national painting exhibits over the years as an artist. He is a Pastel Society of America Hall of Fame Honoree and Eminent Pastelists of the International Association of Pastel Societies. He was a founding member of The Degas Pastel Society and president for 26 years. Alan was a dear friend, mentor and generous contributor to the local, national and international pastel community. He taught workshops around the world, including Italy, Crete, Croatia, Scotland, Ireland, China, Barbados, Egypt, Mexico, Australia, Bermuda as well as the United States. He also taught workshops at The Abbey for the last several years. He was a gallery artist at the Carol Robinson Gallery in New Orleans.
A memorial service will be held at the St. Joseph Abbey on Friday, July 25, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm followed by a funeral mass at 2:00 pm. Fr. Alejandro "Alex" Valladares will be the celebrant of the Mass. The address is 75376 River Road, St. Benedict (Covington) LA, 70457.
Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Abbey cemetery.
