Jewel James Cox, Jr., known to his loved ones and friends as “James”, of Covington, Louisiana entered eternal life on November 14, 2022, at the age of 79. He was born in Independence, LA on February 16, 1943, and was a life-long resident of Covington, LA. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Hazel Elaine Cox, parents, Jewel James Cox, Sr. and Annie Mae Stokes Jones, and sisters Shirley Bennett and Helen Bankston.
He is survived by his children Melissa Grant (Kevin), James W. Cox, stepson Rudy Booth, stepdaughter Ivy Fauntleroy, his siblings Ronnie Cox (Anita), Floyd Cox (Carolyn), Dwane Cox, and Carolyn Hyde, and his uncle Carley Stokes (Ann), who was like a brother to him. James also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was a barber and owner of James’ Barber Shop in Covington for over 35 years. He loved being a barber, and loved his customers, many who became lifelong friends, even more. He was an avid LSU fan and had a passion for gardening. He never met a stranger and loved to reminisce and tell stories of the good old days to all who knew him.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Trinity Trace Nursing Home for the care and support they provided to him over the last few years. We would also like say a special thank you to his dear friend Judge John Greene and his wife, Judy who showed him great kindness, compassion, and friendship for many years.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Monday, November 28, 2022, at Red Bluff Baptist Church, 15204 Hwy 1078, Folsom, La 70437. Visitation will begin from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 12:00 p.m. The family would like to ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to Red Bluff Baptist Church.
