Shirley King

Shirley Copenhaver King, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2018 surrounded by her family. Born January 8, 1931 and raised in Bristol, TN, she was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Nat H. Copenhaver and Amelia Slack Copenhaver. She is survived by her husband Paul Clinton King. She is also survived by her sister Mary Amelia Spivey of Ann Arbor, MI and brother Nat H. Copenhaver, Jr. (Jane) of Clayton, GA. She attended Mount Vernon Junior College and the University of Alabama where she met the love of her life, Paul. An Avid University of Alabama fan, she and Paul never missed the opportunity to dress in crimson and white to cheer the team on. She taught school for 19 years and loved her many travels with Paul after retirement. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi, the daughters of the American Revolution, The Blue Stocking Club and was a devout Methodist. She was the loving mother of Brad King (Deborah), Natalie Lanaux (H.D.), Susan Martin (Philip) and Leslie Blankenship (Ken). She was a devoted grandmother to Lauren Mustin (Beaux), Dr. Ryan King, Trey Lanaux (Carley), Ashley Lanaux, Paul Martin (Elizabeth), Kaitlin Martin, Alexis, Collin and Bailey Blankenship. Great grandmother to Leighton and Walton Lanaux, Cole and Harrison Mustin. Shirley will always be remembered for her sweet love and devotion to her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by many. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Stahls, Dr. Jeanine Martin, Janine Bagur, RN, Lovie (Cookie) Ladner, Destiny White and the St. Tammany Palliative and Hospice Care teams for their love and wonderful care. Services will be held at State Street United Methodist Church in Bristol, VA>
