Daughter of the late James Ullrich and Anna Venezio Ullrich, Bernie was one of 14 children. Growing up in Burbank, IL, Bernie made many friendships which she cherished and maintained through the years. She married her childhood sweetheart, Chris Czopek, and the two moved to Louisiana where new roots were planted, starting with the birth of their son Zachary and then followed by the birth of their daughter Kristen. Bernie felt that one of her greatest achievements, in addition to her own children, was when she became a Grandmother. Known as “Magi” to her grandchildren, Joseph Ryan and Anna Michelle, she treasured their daily visits and loved them very much. Bernie nurtured her family with a dual concept of Cajun Creole & Chicago Italian which led her to become a fantastic cook. She loved to prepare food and share it with all who entered her home. Bernie was also a talented beautician who loved making her clients feel and look good as well as being someone they could confide in. She also had a love for crafting and making new art out of old treasures. Bernadette was an amazing woman who was beautiful inside and out. She had a strong yet gentle soul. Her funny and caring personality was immediately felt when in her presence. She loved her family & friends; she loved life and the beauty in it. Bernie was one of a kind and loved by all.
