Wilma Howell

Mrs. Wilma Louise Howell, age 88, went to her Heavenly home on February 1, 2018. She was surrounded by her family as she passed peacefully.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Clarence W. Howell, her parents, and several siblings. She is survived by her sister, Marie Wertz of Roanoke, VA, three children, Steve Howell, Penny Howell Hagerman (m. Johnny Hagerman), Suzanne Howell Bourgeois (m. Darren Bourgeois). She also leaves behind four grandchildren; Travis, Molly, Kaitlyn, and Madeleine, one great grandchild, Elli, and her devoted canine companion, Sebastian all of whom she loved dearly.  Wilma was born on November 16, 1929 in Roanoke, Virginia the youngest of seven children. Wilma was a talented musician and enjoyed a lengthy career as an organist in many churches over a span of 50 years. Cooking was also one of her passions, and looked forward to any occasion when she could feed a crowd. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Slidell LA, and loved being part of the music ministry in the chancel choir. For the past two years, she resided at Park Provence Assisted Living where she had many dear friends. She looked forward to outings that included salon visits, shopping for the latest fashions, and dining out.  The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of Park Provence for their devoted care and her many friends in the community who remained an important and active part of her life.

A memorial will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, 433 Erlanger Ave, Slidell, LA 70458. Visitation will be held at 12:15 with service beginning at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to STARC of Louisiana, 1541 St. Ann, Slidell LA 70460 or St Tammany Parish Humane Society 20384 Harrison Ave, Covington LA 70433.
